About This Comparison Tool
Understanding how Australian cities differ climatically is essential for anyone planning to relocate or travel. Each city has unique weather patterns shaped by latitude, elevation, proximity to oceans, and regional weather systems. Our comparison tool lets you examine monthly temperatures, annual rainfall, humidity, solar radiation, and our proprietary Comfort Score for any two cities simultaneously.
The Comfort Score synthesizes temperature, rainfall, humidity, and sunshine exposure into a single 1 to 10 rating for each month. A score of 10 represents ideal outdoor conditions for most people, while a score of 1 indicates harsh weather. By comparing comfort scores across months, you can identify the best seasons for visiting each destination or understand seasonal migration patterns.
Data Sources and Methodology
All climate data comes from the Open-Meteo Historical Weather API, which aggregates official weather station records and reanalysis datasets across Australia. Each location includes monthly averages for maximum and minimum temperatures, annual and monthly rainfall, the number of rainy days, solar exposure measured in megajoules per square metre, and relative humidity percentages. The Comfort Score is our proprietary metric that weighs all these factors to help you quickly identify the best time to visit any Australian destination.
