Terms of Use
These are the terms under which we offer the climate data and content on weather.refdat.com. They are deliberately short. Use the site, share it, even reproduce parts of it. Just do the things below.
Free to read and link to
Every page on this site is free to read. You do not need permission to link to any page, including deep links to specific city, suburb, comparison, or methodology pages. We encourage links.
Attribution if you reproduce
If you reproduce material from this site, by which we mean copying text, tables, charts, or substantial portions of a page into another publication, attribute it as: RefDat Weather (weather.refdat.com), with a link to the page you used.
The climate data itself originates from public-domain or CC BY 4.0 sources. Where we have built derivative figures, such as the comfort score, we license those derivatives under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. That means you can copy, adapt, and even use commercially, as long as you attribute the source.
If you reproduce raw underlying data, you should also acknowledge the original source as we do: BOM SILO, Open-Meteo Historical Weather API, or ACORN-SAT, as appropriate. See the about page for the full source list.
No warranty
We work to keep the climate data on this site accurate and current, but we do not warrant that it is complete, correct, or fit for any specific purpose. The data is provided "as is".
Do not use weather.refdat.com as the sole basis for any decision where weather genuinely matters. That includes aviation, agriculture, marine navigation, construction scheduling, emergency planning, insurance assessment, and property purchase. For those decisions, defer to the Bureau of Meteorology or to a licensed professional.
We accept no liability for any loss, direct or indirect, arising from your use of this site or from any inaccuracy in the data.
What you cannot do
A few things are off limits, mostly to keep the site usable for everyone:
- No scraping at scale. Do not run automated tools that hit this site at high volume to harvest the data. If you want a copy of the underlying dataset, contact us. The raw data is available from BOM and Open-Meteo directly if you want a feed.
- No commercial republishing without attribution. You can use the data commercially under CC BY 4.0, but only with attribution back to this site.
- No misrepresentation. Do not claim that figures from this site are official BOM data, or that we have endorsed your product. We have not.
- No bypassing the access controls. The site uses standard abuse controls and rate limiting to deter automated abuse. Do not engineer around them.
- No use that breaks Australian law. The usual disclaimer: do not do anything illegal with the site.
Advertising
This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. The ads are selected by Google, not by us, and their presence does not constitute endorsement. If you click an ad and have a problem with the advertiser, that is a matter between you, the advertiser, and Google.
Third-party links
The site links to third-party sources (BOM, Open-Meteo, SILO, ACORN-SAT, Wikipedia, news outlets, retailer sites). We are not responsible for the content of those external sites and including a link does not constitute endorsement.
Changes to the site
The site evolves. Pages may be added, moved, retired, or rewritten. URLs may change, in which case we put a 301 redirect in place. We do not commit to keeping any specific page or feature available indefinitely.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, the new version will be published on this page with an updated "last reviewed" date. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute arising from your use of this site will be heard in NSW courts. If any clause of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
