Privacy Policy

This page explains what data weather.refdat.com collects when you visit, what we do with it, and what we do not do. It is written in plain English, not legalese, but it covers everything Australian privacy law requires us to cover.

The short version

We collect anonymous traffic statistics through Google Analytics, we show ads served by Google AdSense, we sit behind Cloudflare which logs request metadata, and we do not ask you to create an account, fill in a form, or give us any personal information. If you want to opt out of ad personalisation or analytics, you can.

Who we are

weather.refdat.com is operated by RefDat, an independent Australian operation that builds reference sites from public data. RefDat is the data controller for this site. To contact us about privacy, email [email protected].

What data we collect

Google Analytics

Every page on this site loads Google Analytics (GA4 property G-CET7RHL9CT). Analytics collects:

• Pages visited and time spent on each page
• Your approximate location (city/region level, not street address) derived from your IP address
• Device type, browser, screen size, operating system
• How you arrived (search keyword if shared by the search engine, referring site, direct, social)
• Anonymous user and session identifiers stored in first-party cookies

Google Analytics does not collect your name, email, postal address, phone number, or any other directly identifying information through this site, because we never ask you for any of that.

Google AdSense

This site displays ads from Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-9367164390411875). AdSense and Google's advertising partners may set cookies to:

• Show you ads relevant to the page content (contextual targeting)
• Show you ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites (personalised advertising), where you have consented
• Measure ad performance, including impressions and clicks
• Detect ad fraud and abuse

You can review and control how Google personalises ads for you at Google Ad Settings. You can opt out of third-party advertising cookies via the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool or, in Europe, Your Online Choices.

Cloudflare

This site is served through Cloudflare, a content delivery network that also provides security against denial-of-service attacks and abusive bots. Cloudflare logs the IP address of every request, the page requested, the time, the user-agent string, and a "ray ID" used to trace abuse. Cloudflare retains these logs for a short period. We do not download or store Cloudflare's request logs ourselves.

Server access logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard web server access logs for operational and security purposes. These contain the same kinds of data Cloudflare logs (IP, page, time, user-agent). They are retained for a limited period and used only to debug problems and detect abuse.

What we do not collect

We do not ask you to register, log in, or create an account. There are no accounts on this site.

There are no forms on this site that collect personal information. We do not request your name, email, phone number, address, or any other personal data through the site itself.

We do not run a newsletter, a comments section, or any feature that would require us to store information about you.

We do not sell any data about you, because we do not collect any data about you that we could sell.

Cookies and similar technologies

The cookies on this site come from three sources:

• Google Analytics: first-party cookies that store anonymous session and user identifiers.
• Google AdSense and ad partners: third-party cookies for ad measurement and, where you have consented, ad personalisation.
• Cloudflare: a security cookie that helps identify legitimate traffic and block automated abuse.

You can clear cookies, block cookies, or use private/incognito browsing in your browser settings. The site will still work, although ad measurement and personalisation will be less accurate.

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we hold about you (if any)
• Request access to it
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Complain about how we have handled your information

Because we do not collect personal information on this site beyond what is described above, in practice the most useful right to know about is your right to control what Google collects via the analytics and ad settings linked above.

If you have a complaint about privacy, email us first at [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

International users

The site is operated from Australia and is intended for an Australian audience. If you are visiting from elsewhere, Google may transfer analytics and ad data to servers outside your country, which you can review in Google's own privacy policies.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information on this site, contact us and we will investigate.

Changes to this policy

If we change this privacy policy, the new version will be published on this page with an updated "last reviewed" date. We will not make material changes that reduce your privacy rights without giving advance notice.
